Team Jesse Sponsors Character Does Matter Program at Founder Kevin Mincio's Alma Mater Sachem North High School
May 24, 2012 - On the eve of Memorial Day weekend, Team Jesse was proud to visit Sachem North High School in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY to kick off our sponsorship for the school’s Character Does Matter program. James Brobyn, the Executive Director of the Travis Manion Foundation, spoke to a rising senior class of over 600 strong, inviting them to join in the Foundation’s signature “If not me, then who….” Service Challenge in honor of Sgt. Jason A. Santora, a Sachem North High School graduate and US Army Ranger who was killed in action on April 23, 2010. After asking the students to reflect on what character means to them, James challenged the students to take on any community service project of their choice that honors the memory of military veterans like Sgt. Santora. These projects will be submitted to the Travis Manion Foundation for their annual Character Does Matter scholarship competition. This event coincided with Sachem North’s tribute to military veterans as part their Memorial Day weekend Thank a Vet initiative that helps connect students to the sacrifices countless men and women have made over the years in defense of the freedom we all enjoy today.
We salute the dedication of Sachem North Principal John Dolan and Assistant Principal and former Marine Ken Costa for all their efforts to bring the shared missions of the Team Jesse Foundation and the Travis Manion Foundation to the alma mater of Team Jesse founder Kevin Mincio. We are very proud to have Sachem North High School as part of the Team and we look forward to seeing what these students will do in memory of Sachem alum Sgt. Santora. We cannot wait to see how this group of young people will take it To the Limit!
